Well, hello, random people that are surfing the world wide web. And because this is my first blog post please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Allie, I'm 21, and I love books. I have always loved books. When I was young my mom would yell at me to not read while I was walking. When I was younger, I would fall asleep on the floor reading in my room where I had been sitting. At one point, I was reading books under the covers using a light-up pen, or shoving pillows by the bottom of my door so light wouldn't shine out of the bottom crack. My parents took the Harry Potter books away from me each night to ensure that I got some sleep. Yes, I am a book lover.
I read all sorts, anything I can get my hands on. I prefer non-fiction, and adore "fluff" and classics - but anything will do.
Currently I am finishing a Bachelor of Arts Degree. I'm applying to Graduate School to obtain a Masters in Library Science - yes, there is such a thing. It is necessary to my future goal of becoming a librarian! I am very very stressed out about the application process... but I'm sure I will survive.
My major in school right now is English Literature (obviously!) and because of this I read a lot of required reading and only a little of "fun" reading. Last term, for class, I enjoyed the first half of "The Heavenly Twins" by Sarah Grand, as well as a host of Shakespearean plays. "The Heavenly Twins" is a lesser-known book, and was in many ways amazing. It made me "lol", but the second half was very different from the first and I'm not altogether sure that I approve.
For fun, I recently read "NEXT" by Michael Crichton (who wrote "Jurassic Park" and many other famous things). It was a good enough book, but holy heck was it ever provoking! It's all about genes and ownership and genetically modified organisms and humans and rights and yeesh - I got myself all worked up into a state of anxiety! But, it was a big print book and that was a joy... so I persevered.
For Christmas, I received Chapters and a Black Bond Books gift certificates! Any suggestions for books that I need to own?? I was also given Rudyard Kipling's "Tales or Horror and Fantasy", a beautiful old "Tales from Shakespeare" book, and a GORGEOUS Robbie Burns book (with golden pages!). I was spoiled this year.
I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas, and I look forward to discussing books and book-related topics with you!
